Day Nine

Adelaide

After our suitcase fiasco from last night, today was a good day. We flew to Adelaide our suitcases flew to Sydney. The short story is David retrieved them at the airport at 10:45 pm last night.

We started with a breakfast at the hotel and then walked to the South Australia Museum and visited with Terry’s niece and her son. The museum is a natural history one, and isn’t as large as the one in Chicago but large enough.

Poached eggs for both, David’s with Beef Bourguignon, very tasty.
Off to the market
At the market

We end up at markets since we have to eat and we support local vendors.

Interesting things and comparisons

When we were in Uluru and saw demonstrations of Aboriginal tools, weapons, and food, David compared them to the The San Bushmen or The Kung (!Kung) people of The Kalahari Desert. All three people groups still used the Atlatl, in Australia the Woomera to hunt with into the twentieth century, and some still live the traditional life. The images of the stone grinding tools evoke the metates of Mesoamerican cultures. All the cultures have claim to being some of the oldest in the world. Even the woven baskets in the photo show similarities to those seen in the Americas. David didn’t photograph them, but on display were flint knapped spear tips. Some were similar to Clovis points, some evoked Native American arrow heads.
