Day One of our journey
We started at home, double checking that we had the right documents, that our luggage was in the weight tolerance and dimensions of Jetstar Airlines, they are picky, more on that later.
We hit the road on time, yes it’s possible! We had plenty of time for a picnic lunch at a park in El Segundo, near the airport.
It’s a good thing we planned on getting to the airport before traffic in LA was a mess, that allowed us plenty of time for security. David’s bag was sent to secondary for hand screening, it passed with flying colors. Whew!
Time for the wait in the “hurry up and wait”. Now it’s the waiting. We are two hours early for boarding.

First things first, fill the gas tank, fill the belly.

If you know, you know. LOL

We’ve learned to travel light. Two rolling carry on bags and two personal items. Jetstar airlines is strict. I’ll post more about that later.

See you tomorrow, your Tuesday, our Wednesday, we cross the international date line.
Day Two
Part 1
Really, even though we crossed the international date line and lost a day it’s day two.
Our Delta flight was long, they feed you dinner, a snack along the way, and a breakfast close to landing time. A long boring flight at night, David slept multiple times and Terry’s sleep pattern is wonky and she’s wiped out sitting at the Sydney airport.
David’s seat mate was an interesting fellow who is Australian and makes diggeridoos. He starts with harvesting the tree and goes from there. He’s proud that some of his have been used in major international opening ceremonies and included in orchestras too. He shared a wealth of information through the flight and David discovered he’s a fellow Christian.
Terry struck up a conversation with her seat mate and they talked about things to do in Sydney and more.
On to the waiting at the Sydney airport for our connecting flight to Melbourne.
Part 2 Melbourne
It’s 2:00 am in our hotel we made here just after 5:00 pm, we were a block from the hotel and it started pouring rain. We arrived wet, tired but not hungry since we ate a good lunch in the Sydney airport during our layover, we were just travel weary.
While planning for this trip, Terry asked David if he would figure out all the travel connections from and to – airports, train stations, trams, buses, etc. It’s a good thing to do so that you have a general idea on how to get around. Though the fine tuning at any given city is trial and error.
Yesterday we took longer to transit airports, train stations, and tram stops as we familiarized ourselves with how things work. One small hiccup was our banking plan fell apart. We had set up a debit card bank account with Bank of America, no fees to use internationally, but the pin given to us in the states wouldn’t work at the preferred bank’s ATM. We had planned on getting cash for small purchases and now get to work out what’s wrong. Oh joy!
